Frequently Asked Questions
How much flooring waste should I plan for?
Straight/parallel installation: 5–10% (add 7% as a safe default). Diagonal installation: 15% (more cuts at walls). Herringbone or complex patterns: 20–25%. Irregular rooms with many cuts: up to 25%. Always buy from the same production lot — colour and finish can vary between batches.
What is the difference between US and UK flooring sizing?
US hardwood and laminate is sold in square feet, typically in boxes covering 15–25 sq ft. UK/AU engineered wood and laminate is sold in m², typically in boxes covering 1.5–2.5 m². UK carpet is sold as a linear metre measurement off a 4m-wide roll. US carpet is sold in square yards (SY) from a 12ft-wide roll.
